Intersil Announces Power Management Solutions for Intel Centrino Mobile Technology Platforms; High-Efficiency PWM Controllers Power Intel Pentium M Processor for Extended Battery Life
MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 2003--Intersil
Corporation (Nasdaq:ISIL), a world leader in the design and
manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking
solutions, today announced the new Endura(TM) ISL6216 and ISL6217
multiphase PWM controllers designed to provide precision core power
regulation for the Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor used in the
Intel(R) Centrino(TM) mobile technology platforms for notebook PCs.
The ISL6216 multiphase PWM controller, combined with external
MOSFET drivers such as Intersil's ISL6207, offers design flexibility
with up to 2-phases of core power current sharing. The ISL6217
two-phase PWM controller integrates two MOSFET drivers, reducing
external component count and conserving board space and cost. In
addition to core power regulation solutions, Intersil also provides
high efficiency PWM controllers for the Intel Centrino mobile
technology platform memory, interface control hub chip set and DDR
SDRAM.
"Intersil is the only vendor to offer two alternative precision
core regulation solutions for the Intel Pentium M processor. The
ISL6216 and ISL6217 PWM controllers offer engineers selection and
flexibility in their design approach," said Rick Furtney, vice
president and general manager of Intersil's High Performance Analog
Product Group. "We have secured design-wins with both controllers and
are well positioned to support the release and production ramp of
notebooks based on the Intel Centrino mobile technology platform."
"Notebook manufacturers have demonstrated battery run times of
over 5 hours when running Intel Pentium M processor-based platforms
using Intersil's power management solutions," said Dean Henderson,
director for Intersil's Portable Power Management Products. "These new
platforms will significantly enhance the freedom of mobility for end
users."
